The faces in the exhibition ‘Hauntings’ show faint traces of colour such as red on the lips or blue in the eyes of the statues. At first I thought I was seeing things when blood seemed to be coming from the lips of a statue then I thought that perhaps the curators or someone in the past had painted them. I was not wrong. The following article describes how it was discovered, through the use of ultraviolet light, that most of the statues in ancient Greece and elsewhere were originally vividly painted.   Read article>
